WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A MIRACLE LEAGUE COACH?

A desire to work with outstanding people - Miracle League Players and Buddies - to provide a great baseball and team experience.

A commitment of your time each season to:

  • Register online each season - An automatic background check is performed by the ML every two years for all of our volunteers 18 years or older.
  • Contact all of your players' parents prior to the season and talk over how to give each player a good experience.
  • Communicate with your group of Team Buddies before the games and during the season
  • Attend one Buddy meeting or one Coaches meeting each year. New Coaches must attend a Coaches Orientation Meeting prior to their first season.
  • Be actively involved in each of your games for 30 minutes before game time, for the entire 60 minutes to play the game and for about 15 minutes after each game. If you must miss a game, communicate with the Buddy or Player Coordinator.
  • At every game wear your ML name tag/lanyard, which indicates you are approved to be on the field.  You will be provided a Coach Jersey.
  • When necessary, after games, contact parents about any issues that may have occurred during the game.

The focus of a Head Coach:

  • Maintain a general understanding of each child’s issues, potential, and limitations - talk with parents about their child.
  • Be sure buddies are aware of player issues.
  • Maintain a safe environment.
  • Build team-spirit.
  • Promote the excitement of a real game.
  • Be organized - keep the batting order ready and keep the game moving.
  • Try to get players into normal defensive positions on the field.
  • Utilize your Buddy Captain and provide moral support and guidance to Buddies.

Being a Miracle League coach is not hard work. But it is truly rewarding!  It is an opportunity to be a part of a great organization, doing great things for great kids.
